To SuSE 9.1 Konqueror Users

I think I may have found a bug in Konqueror but I'm not sure so I was just wondering if anyone else using it could verify if this happens to them too before I do something drastic like reporting it. I'm using the Professional version off of the DVD if it makes any difference. When I go to the site http://www.globeandmail.com (it's a majour Canadian newspaper so it's work safe etc). The first page loads fine but then when I try to open an article then the the progress bar gets to about 85% and then hangs. The programs stops redrawing itself properly, stops responding, and then eventually crashes with the dialogue in the screenshot but it's:
Quote:
Window with title "Globe and Mail - Konqueror" is not responding. The window belong to konqueror (PID=6274, hostname=localhost)
You can even see some of the redraw problem in the background.

Sometimes an article will load up fine, but then go back and try another page and then that one will crash. This crash kill the entire instance along with all the other tabs. Other instances of Konqueror appear unaffected and it doesn't seem to affect the general stability of the system.

I am using it under KDE/KWin with all the patches their are applied. This bug is repeatable; for me at least.
I have tried with both Cookies set to 'accept' or 'reject' on the site.

The good old Globe and Mail right here in TO.

The homepage and articles open fine in Firefox and Konqueror 3.1.4 (SuSE 9.0).

No similiar problems with other sites?

I have no problems when viewing with Firefox either, I can't be a network problem. Even if it was then Konqueror should handle it nicley instead of dieing like that.

Yeah the G&M is the only decent paper I've seen in this country. The Star will do when nothing else is around.

Like I said, Konqueror 3.1.4 works fine with G&M. What version are you using?

Perhaps submit a bug report with KDE.

It crashes here to. I use SuSe 9 with Konqueror 3.2.1 and KDE 3.2.2. Works fine with Firefox. Might be a bug in Konqueror.

Version

Konqueror 3.2.1 (KDE 3.2.1)

Well since JsPr has experienced the same thing I guess it's probably not just my fault.

Now should I try reporting this to KDE or to SuSE?

I'm using Mandrake 10.0 and it seems to happen on here to, I use firefox for web browsing, but I opened up konqueror to give it a shot just to see if it would affect me as well, according to KDE Control Center I've got 3.2 BRANCH >= 20040204, I'm not sure what that means but it's the stock KDE install from Mandrake 10 official(ftp install).

Not SuSE as they are not the KDE/Konqueror developers.

KDE or even the Globe & Mail as it could be they've built their site for IE or Netscape.

Oops! Already an known bug!

Well stupid me it turns out that this is a known bug and that it is reported already on Bugs.KDE.org. Well at least I searched before I posted and it appears from the number of 'duplicated bug' that I'm a minority! Well anyways if any of you that have noticed this and can offer a better description of what happens to the developers please do.

I think it is a politcal thing, the Globe and Mail may be too conservative for the KDE Konqueror people so it has a conservative filter built in.

I tested this and apparentally National Post works fine. I was looking to find a MArk Steyn editorial to really test for that filter... one of those should blow any filter and just shutdown the box as a dark wisp of smoke leaks out of the case.

Yea mine will not even load up Rush Limbaugh or Mark Savage, but click on the Democrats page or anything with Bill Clinton and it seems to load twice as fast.

Thats because they are too slick... there is no friction to slow it down.

I just happen to be browsing JL while on my Mac and remembered this thread, so I gave that site a shot in Safari (Apple's broswer based on Konqueror) and it appears to work without any trouble. I doubt this helps much, but I figured it could hurt to point it out.
