xine with rh9

I am facing problems with xine installed under rh9 shrike. The problem I am facing is that xine hangs while playing files(these problems were non existant with psyche). I downloaded the latest xine builds in tar.gz format from the official site and installed them. Then i also got the builds in rpm format from unofficial sites. Still face the same problem. I have a radeon 8500le but my friend with a tnt 1 faces the same problem too.
Any suggestions?

launch xine from a terminal and post the error or information from the point it hangs and shortly before.
