I was using Mandrake 8.0 and had a floppy in the drive and I've been trying to get it out and the unmount /dev/fd0 command isn't working I keep getting that the command was not found
So Please HELP!! How can i get this floppy out??? :(

It should be umount /dev/fd0

THanks, I used that command just now without the n and this time i got the message saying it was not mounted and I still cant eject the floppy and when I go to the floppy icon on the mandrake 8.0 desktop it says I do not have access rights to the location....but how can that be if I am in ROOt at the moment???

Okay, run df to see if /dev/fd0 is indeed mounted. If so, then I'm not sure why umount isn't working. If it's not mounted, then can't you just hit the eject button the floppy drive itself? Or is that what is giving you the problems?

I did df and its not mounted. I can't hit the button to eject the floppy cause it wont let me. I try to but as hard as I push it won't release the floppy and I still wonder why it says I don't have rights to it. I even tried using the eject command and umount but neither work.

Ok so maybe the problem is that I don't have rights to the floppy even if I try to mount it I get this:
mount: block device /dev/fd0 is write-protected, mounting read only
mount: cannot mount block device /dev/fd0 read only
so how can I change the permissions then?

I doubt there would be anything in Linux that could prevent you from physically removing the diskette. The floppy eject button is mechanical after all. Are you sure there's a floppy in the drive?

Are you sure it's the floppy and not the CD? In Linux the CDROM bay can be locked if it's mounted, but floppies aren't locked and can be removed. If there is a floppy and it's stuck, then it's not Linux. Check to see if the floppy has split or something.

Thanks for replying!
Well it was a damaged floppy, somehow the metal part of it got stuck in the drive. Pulled the floppy out with tweezers and the metal part got left behind so I used a hair pen. Anyway everything is working fine now but thanks again! :D
