Which distribution are you using? Wouldn't it be easier to use a package?

Hmm... try updating ldconfig (sorry, not a Mandrake user)?

The problem is with glibc, not ldconfig. The only way I know of upgrading glibc is from source (check http://howto.tucows.com on how to do this). When you upgrade from glibc 2.1.x to glibc 2.2.x using an rpm it basically breaks everything and makes it unusable. There have been a couple of posts on this already, if you search for 'glibc 2.2 rpm', you might find some help.

I tried this awhile ago. I use MDK 7.2 as well. If you go on rpmfind (http://rpmfind.com) and search for ldconfig you can get a seperate RPM which will satisfy the dependency.

Also the prior post is right, upgrading MDK7.2 to glibc 2.2 will break things all over the place, as 2.2 will want to replace 2.1. However Mandrake has a compatability RPM out there which can coexist with 2.2 and allow 2.1 apps to run correctly. I think its called glibc-2.1.x-compat or something like that.

(Sorry for the fuzzyness, this is all from memory since I've since done a reinstall and don't have the RPMs onhand.)
