making those funny domain names

we've all seen these before... but how do you make those domains? I was told you just add a host record to the dns.

I have 2 dns servers at work (an isp) and i was wanting to do it with a certain one of my domain names. We have a NT dns server (Primary) and a linux one (slave) and i don't know much about dns...

how would i go about setting one or more up?

Well, you should no more than me, considering you work at an ISP <AHEM>.

I don't think you're really supposed to, unless you own the base of the domain name. So like, if you own linuxisgod.com, then you can somehow set it up so microsoft.should.give.up.because.linuxisgod.com forwards you somewhere (or maybe just forwards you to linuxisgod.com).

So like, say I owned the domain name "kingant.net". I could add an entry in the DNS so "queen.and.kingant.net" would point to "kingant.net" The it just propogates out into other DNS servers after a few days.

You should talk to some technical DNS people at your ISP, if there are any. I've never really set up a DNS server, so I'm kinda, uh, fuzzy.

yeah, that's what i know, but in my dns manager (it's a NT machine) i can't add host records with a "." in it... and i asked the main guy, and he didn't know (it's a small isp, me and 4 other people, including our accountant)

i'm trying to add some stuff to my domain name (mandreko.com) or something... i think it's called a virtual host, but i can't seem to get it

Just go to your registrar and register the domain as a name server..

Do a whois on:

algore.com

and

georgewbush.com

those boht have mainframex.com in them, and thats how i did it

we use NT and IIS but use BIND for our DNS servers so I can't really help but I got a few leads on how searching google... this one looks like it says what you need http://www.microsoft.com/technet/winnt/setting.asp

scary part is it's Chapter 4 of DNS for windows NT from oreilly

purchase the domain 'linuxisgod.com' and then create subdomains with IIS. DIRECTORY HEADERS!!!!
