OK...still trying to get my printer to work. I've got magicfilter, pnm2ppa, lprng, and printtool installed on my debian box. I think I got /etc/printcap set up right with printtool but when I try to print, I get this error:

g0d:/home/evulish# lpr -Plp moop.txt
Status Information:
sending job 'root@g0d+605' to lp@localhost
connecting to 'localhost', attempt 1
connected to 'localhost'
requesting printer lp@localhost
sending control file 'cfA605g0d' to lp@localhost
job 'root@g0d+605' transfer to lp@localhost failed
error 'ERROR TRANSFERRING DATA'
sending control file 'cfA605g0d' to lp@localhost
g0d:/home/evulish#

Any idea what causes this error or how to fix it? I've searched through google and read over the linux printing howto and dint find anything...

hmmm. Have you made sure to add 'localhost' at least to your /etc/hosts.lpd ? I've used my HP970 under Debian with 'printtool', and although it's not as nice as I would like it works fine...can you post your printcap?
