Talking to you from Phoenix 0.5 running under IceWM, inside Mandrake 8.2. Different strokes for different folks!! nerrollus 05-01-2003, 10:53 PM Slackware / Blackbox > all ;) jymbo 05-01-2003, 11:01 PM No it's not...Waimea is! But we're all the same children of Blackbox. bskahan 05-01-2003, 11:32 PM openbox > .*box sawfish > * leonpmu 05-02-2003, 12:21 AM Is asking for a flamewar... also, please unless you have a direct and personal relationship with God, AND you have seen his desktop system, please refrain from making statements like that. Thank you Actually, I was chatting with God just the other day, and he sent me his screeny, and it was definitely Fluxbox. All your base belong to God. lazy13 05-02-2003, 03:11 AM Actually, I picture god using something that looks more like what tom cruise was using in Minority Report when he's looking for porn. janet loves bill 05-02-2003, 07:43 PM Originally posted by jglen490 I'm so glad think so. What is also great, is using the gimp to take off crap like .....digitalblasphemy from the wallpaper.....I consider this spam and don't want to look at it. hehe and don't give me any flak about copyrights either........pphhhttt. I don't want to defase his artwork. It's his stuff and he deserves props for it. I wouldn't say it's spam. It's just a logo, a very discreet one at that. jetblackz 05-04-2003, 02:00 AM Come back after 10 years. You'll prolly want something with more icons. serz 05-04-2003, 02:34 AM I don't like icons.. :P sarah31 05-04-2003, 01:44 PM flux is weak. all it has going for it that is "innovative" is tabs......if you like tabs that is. I would sooner choose waimea or openbox over flux. flux is like using dos compared to using waimea or openbox. jlmb 05-04-2003, 02:00 PM I use flux, i kinda like tabs...very usefull stuff. sarah31 , what you like about openbox, i've never try it....but what's is the big deal about it...after all is *box just as flux. jlmb 05-04-2003, 02:14 PM ummm read a little about openbox, looks pretty nice...gonna put it on my TO-DO-list Hayl 05-04-2003, 02:27 PM it's (openbox) way better than flux. it has a better key grabbing system, doesn't have the idiotic tabs that are totally useless imho since tabs should be in apps, not on windows. also, it handles antialiased fonts properly (i.e. not huge fonts). also, it won't be too closely related to the other *box WMs once 2.0 is released. it's a total rewrite without any blackbox code. (not to mention that most of the fluxbox devs on #fluxbox as a**holes) serz 05-04-2003, 04:05 PM I don't use tabs in Fluxbox.. so it's like I'm using Blackbox.. What other good things has Waimea, Hackedbox and Openbox? Beckman 05-04-2003, 07:13 PM fluxbox is the best... i love the shell. so i use fluxbox with aterms. nice semi transparent aterms..... with micq for example... the best icq client.. and yeah. its a console client. kde reminds me too much of windows.... its a windows-like interface with taskbar, icons, the same buttons, with a START button etc... gnome is good and nice, and faster than kde, but still not what my heart really wanted. so finally i found fluxbox...... and yes, it really is really what makes me happy, when i stay up in the morning and see when i turn on my monitor :) and then this nice aterm mhhhhmm..... its just linux! thats the way to go :) even if everything ran in windows, i was just never as happy as i am now :) sarah31 05-05-2003, 01:20 PM Originally posted by Yorsh I use flux, i kinda like tabs...very usefull stuff. sarah31 , what you like about openbox, i've never try it....but what's is the big deal about it...after all is *box just as flux. once you get used to some of the differences in the way thing are handled (ie iconifying of windows instead of dropping into the slit, etc) it just seems to look nicer and handle better than fluxbox. once i started using waimea and openbox (now strictly openbox) when i went back to flux and started using those tabs they drove me nuts. i couldn't handle it anymore so i just stopped using the damn things. Beckman 05-05-2003, 03:21 PM i dont use those tabs either. saturn-vk 05-05-2003, 05:11 PM Originally posted by mrBen Actually, I was chatting with God just the other day, and he sent me his screeny, and it was definitely Fluxbox. All your base belong to God. i dont believe in that kid All shall bow down to E N L I G H T E N M E N T !!! that is all :) Daemonfly 05-05-2003, 07:10 PM I like Fluxbox, but I always end up installing Waimea instead. Some of it's defaults are annoying, like being too sensitive to when you move mouse to edge of screen - switches desktops, but these can all be customized. Beckman 05-06-2003, 03:47 AM never managed to disable this 'switch workspace when moving the the edge of the screen' feature..... have do u do that? apeekaboo 05-06-2003, 05:53 PM Flux rocks my world. :) Tabs make your life so much easier... I used to have 9 dekstops before, but now I can easily do with 4. One of those desktops is solely dedicated to opera, which I run maximized. Those of you who have font problems while running antialiased should have a look at the docs... ;) Waimea looks good, but if it ain't got tabs.... stevewabc 05-09-2003, 01:17 AM were can I start to learn about Flux all I ever use is Gnome but want better..I have it loaded and played in it and got lost and ran.. apeekaboo 05-09-2003, 05:54 AM Try http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/docbook/en/fluxbox-docs.html crow2icedearth2 05-09-2003, 08:50 AM Slackware / Blackbox > all agree slackware 9.0 has left important pacakges off like eterm , (for esetroot ) ( imlib and enlignement ) serz 05-09-2003, 01:18 PM Originally posted by crow2icedearth2 slackware 9.0 has left important pacakges off like eterm , (for esetroot ) ( imlib and enlignement ) That's a good thing about slackware. osmocot404 05-10-2003, 09:46 AM Yes, I would have to agree. justlinux.com
