Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking on the web site for a few days, and decided to sign up at post at last.

As most newbies, I will start with a question:

I'm running Mandrake 9.1, using KDE. Originally I had some problems with the OpenOffice help menu: when I would choose a subject, sometimes I would get kicked out of X, back to the login prompt.

I upgraded to 1.0.3, and everything seems okay... but now I have the same problem with other random logouts. For example, today I forwarded a message from Kmail... worked like a charm. Than I tried forwarding the same message again, about 15 mins later, and got booted out of X to the login prompt.

I noticed when I select logout, I get two different prompts: Sometimes I just get a little box asking to confirm or abort (can't remember exact wording), other times I get the full dialogue box with the dragon and the option to "Login as a different user", "Turn off Computer", and "restart computer".

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? Why I get booted out of X without notice?

Thanks in advance.

X is a bit weird with me too. It seems to change over time.

Seriously, if you ignore it it may well go away.

Well, I am trying to figure all the ins and outs of linux, because some day I hope to be converting businesses to Linux, and will need to be able to answer to problems like this... also, since I do a lot of work on my PC, having everything shut down without notice or saving is not really an option. So far it seems to happen a couple of times a day... almost like running Window$ :) I was hoping to get away from that. :)

You're quite right, its simply that I don't know how to fix the problem. I'm a little nervous of fiddling about with X since it always refuses to start afterwards - even if its just configuring the mouse.
