As I start to learn about linux I thought I understood that linux was the best OS for older machines because it is simpler and more compact and therefore more efficient to run on any given computer than Windows would be on the same comp. So why is it that I can squeeze Win98 onto a 250MB drive, but I have to have at least a gig for Mandrake7? Is there any way to trim the fat at the install and aquire apps later, as I feel the need?
