start the second one with
startx -- :1
And of course you could go on ;)
startx -- :2
startx -- :3
etc....
startx -- :1

How about the Multiple GDM Logons (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/x-windows/multi_gdms.html) NHF?
You should be able to adapt the instructions for KDM or XDM.

This is kinda fun.
This second session is running KDE, browzing w/Mozilla. My normal Gui is IceWM, browzing with Opera.
This really taxes my 4MB ATI card and 64MB Dram so I doubt I'll make it a habit but for testing some stuff it can be useful. Well, back to IceWM. (ctl+alt+f7) :D

I'm back!!
IceWM still is pretty quick with the other (bloat) session hanging out in the background. It's all hanging out on my swap partitions so it is out of the way of my normal stuff!
