New kernel, now no net!

I just upgraded from 2.2.22 to 2.4.20 (on debian) and now I have no network. The module for the adapter loaded alright, I have eth0, but it just doesn't do any dhcp or boop business like it did before. What would be wrong? What kernel options might I be missing?

I hate to sound like a jerk, but you really should search before posting. http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=95717&highlight=dhclient+error should have what you need. You probably just left out an option or two. Sorry if I sounded rude earlier but please search before posting! :)
