One wuick wuestion, I am having trouble getting my @Home up and running. Something odd I noticed, and this may be a stupid question but I am a newbie so bare with me :) ! Anyways, when I type "ifconfig" all I get returned is info on "lo" and not "eth0" Then when I use"ifconfig -a" both "lo" and "eth0" show up.. Is this normal, or should they both come up with just issuing the "ifconfig" command? I cant get my @Home up and running and need to determine if its my NIC or just me. I run "dmesg" also and is says it is loaded with the via-rhine driver so I donno what to think. Please help!

more info needed
what kind of ethernet card do you have?
have you compiled a kernel to support it?

ifconfig eth0 up

?? Have you tried that? Maybe you have a dhcp problem, which I know nothing about.

Yep, I ahave tried. I can ping my IP fine but if I type "ifup eth0" I get a response of "Resource temporarily unavailible, network down".

Any ideas?

well based on the error "Resource temporarily unavailible, network down", I would say you dont have the right information (IP, gateway, etc. ) for eth0, either that or there is a problem with your provider (this is likely if they use DHCP).

is this a dual boot system? If it is does the card/internet work in the other OS?

Yep its dual boot boot with WinME, works perfect in there, but Windows sucks!

I agree windows does suck. But you know your card works, so make sure that the info in linux is the same as you have in linux (IP, gateway, etc.)

I have the same problem on Mandrake 7.1 with Linksys LNE100TX. I followed the installation instructions for linux on the disk.

When I do ifconfig I get on lo. while if I do ifconfig -a I see eth0.

When I try "ifup eth0" a message come up. Usage message comes up. "Usage <device name>" or something like that.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem setting my NTL Cable connection via a set up box.

I am using a onborad Via Rhine LAN chip, VT3043.

I think that their is either a fault with the card or it is not supported in the kernel. My version is 2.4.11-mdk (Somthing like that, at work at the minute so cannot check)

It works in windows, and my old Realtek card works fine.

I have reported this to the makers of my mother board Elite 'L7VTA'

Waiting to hear back.
