Hey guys,
For some reason, XFree86 4.0.2 isn't working so well. Here is the deal...
Otherday, I installed the Debian 2.2r2 base and all went well. Earlier, I the ftp'ed to xfree86.org to download the 12 required files for installation (binaries for glibc2.1) into a local directory I created. From there, I ran sh Xinstall.sh. A series of questions came up, much that dealt with linking files, saving old files, and/or rewriting files. Basically, I selected the default settings.
So far, everything seemed to go well. Then after editing sources.list, I decided to apt-get upgrade;apt-get distr-upgrade. Everthing went well here as well. However, I did notice that libc 2.2.1 was installed...
Anyway, I proceeded to XFree86 -configure and that worked...well sorta. It told me that my mouse was not detected. How do I get my mouse to work???? I tried xf86cfg and that loaded X (w/ the X mouse cursor and gray background) but my laptop just sat there for about 5 minutes. Keyboard was working, but not responding. Mouse did not even work at all.
SO how do I get this darn mouse to work. I know that an XF86Config.new file was created under /root and I moved it to /etc/X11 but I don't think that this file is working...any ideas??
I have a Dell Inspiron 5000, ATi Mobility-P 8MB, 15" SXGA+ LCD screen, and a generic PS/2 mouse (touchpad disabled).
Thanks in advance.
------edit-----
Also, did upgrading to libc2.2.1 mess up the previous XFree86 4.0.2 installation with glibc 2.1 binaries...if so, that might be the problem.
