Sorry if this is a dumb n00b question.

I need to set up a simple peer to peer share between two Redhat 8 boxes so that I can back up files from my notebook before a reformat.*

I've done it before through Network Neighborhood on 'doze, but I've got no idea where to start on Linux. I have a vague idea that I should use samba, but beyond that, I'm pretty lost. I have a crossover cable already, natch.

Any help at all will be appreciated. Thanks.

*Yes, next time I'll put /home in its own partition.

you can do it with either SAMBA or NFS.

if you are ever going to need to share with a microsoft box, then i suggest SAMBA.

do a search on JustLinux - there are a ton of posts on settingup SAMBA already. also, look in the JustLinux library .
