OK, i've been trying for the past week to setup an ftp server on a redhat 7.0 box.. I can't seem to get it to work.. I've tried wuftpd, proftpd, beloftp, and no go.

It just seems like configuring ftp servers is just way too complicated. Half the time I couldn't even get the thing to start (the only exception being wu-ftpd, which is setup to start automatically on install).

So I guess I am asking for a solution that is a little less dificult.. Something that's easy to understand, that doesn't involve reading a poorly written 500+ page manual, and that I can use for authenticated ftp (no anonymous access). I also need chroot support. And it would be nice to be able to change settings via http (but i realize that is asking a lot).

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Go to www.informit.com (http://www.informit.com) and register, then "check out" the Redhat Unleashed book from Sam's - they have a whole chapter on setting up a decent FTP server with chroot info as well.

iYeat, I installed Proftp on redhat7 and it was a cinch, no configuring or hassles at all, ran great right away.... Did you use the rpm? I used this one: proftpd-standalone-1.2.0pre10-1.i386.rpm (I start it manually), try it and post where your having problems.

usually the default Linux installation makes the telnet and ftp daemons run....that means by default, you are an ftp server....isnt that right? That is that way my linux installs go and i always have to specifically edit my startup files and turn them off

i sent you a couple of files.ftpaccess and proftpd.conf use with wu_ftpd or proftpd respectfully. These are basic that allow just annonymous access with no real permissions.
Check your email.I have given these out before and people said they worked
