i was planning on apt-geting the newst mozilla (.8) i checked the current version number in the apt cache and it was M18-3!! so very old. Is this the newest out there? i have the default main servers and unich.edu as the only servers in my sources.list. If there are non downloadable from their webpage, does that likely mean that there are none?

That's the newest .deb out there. You could always build your own. Just apt-get source mozilla and then create the source package based on what the mozilla source package maintainer does. I might do this because I want it too.

but wouldn't the newest source be the same (or a little ahead) of the newest bin? maybe i should check for my self, GASP! what an idea.

dang, its the same version. so i have 2 options, source install or learn how to make debs from source not gotten from apt-get source (apt-get source comes with a extra file with extension .dec whatever that is)

I am running debian also. I downloaded the
new Mozilla 0.8 in tar.gz format and gunzipped it and it installed fine.
Why can't you do that?
