Sup there!

I had installed once the RH8.0 on my navi (aka computer), but then blow it away for space and now want to re-install it, but
SURPRISE:o , the system cannot boot.

I autorun from bios with the CD, everithing ok till the partiitoning. The HD (unique for Linux, an 4GB Segate) is plartitioned as usually, with Autopartition. BUT, after selecting the bunch of programs and modules to install, the installer starts formating the HD and it tells me "There was a problem when trying to re-read the partition table on hda (device busy)..... "

What is that, never apeared before, I tried for several combinations of disks (the drive on master, on slave, on RAID) and on every time it showed me the same "device busy".

What can this be? The drive is semi-new, on excelents conditions and with no errors.

PLEASE HELP

Last thread: i bought a LUCENT modem with AGERE chipset. Is this going to function with RH8.0?

THANKS A LOT:D

Unless you need the data on the drive, I would suggest using fdisk and completely reparitioning the drive. If that don't work, and you have a windows 2000 or newer cd I would use that to format the drive as NTFS which is not linux compatible, unless you patch the linux kernel then it is readable. Then I would, without installing windows, boot with teh linux cds and reformat it again as ext3 or whatever format you want. It might fix the problem, but I'm no expert.

OK ill try that one, with NTFS and see what happens.

Well repartitioning on FAT or NTFS didn't work, any other options?
The message reads
"The kernel was unable to re-read the partition table on /dev/hda (Device or Resource Busy). This means Linux knows nothing about modifications you made. It is recomended to reboot before doing anything with hda"

WHAT HAPPENS!!!!

I had tried to install RH7.2, everithing ok, then installed the RH8.0 as an upgrade (it took nearly 1 1/2 hours) and reboot, everithing ok until re-booting whith linux installed (the grub had problems)

On the installaiton of RH8.0, i have 3 physical HD's: Samsung 20gb on the RAID connector (wich is recognized and setup on the beginning of the cd booting) and one Western 80GB as Slave on the HD1 conector of the motherboard. The Seagate 4GB on which i'm trying to install linux is on the HD1 connector as Master. The RAID one is detected as dev/hde, with also tells me that it is unable to re-read the partition table, the the error of the hda (4GB) on the 3 partitions (/boot, / and swap)..

REALLY NEED HELP:eek:
