xwindows help

Hi,
I am not able open xwindows. When i give the startx command, I get the response - "execve failed for/etc/X11/X (errno 2)"

have you configured x properly ???
using whatever config utility your distro provides??
to set video card monitor etc??
the only other thing i can think of is to use the command
which startx
go there (to the startx script) and read the script and be a detective and figure out if
or which startup files are missing ???
hopefully someone else will have a better idea
seems like system defaults are missing ???
or if you have written a bunch of insane startup scripts in your home dir
rename them and let system defaults kick in to save the day
