I have a problem, I just finish installing (from source) ALSA without any problems. All of my compiled modules are loaded, and acording to lsmod and "cat /proc/asound/cards" the modules are working fine, except I cannot get any sound of my sound card, and YES I did unmute with alsamixer. Here the my system info:
Slackware 9
Hercules Fortissimo II (cs46xx)
Intel i850e chipset
512mg 1066mhz RAMBUS
Geforce 3 (using recently release driver)
Any help would be appriciated.
are you trying with XMMS? if so did you switch the output plugin in XMMS to ALSA?

If you're not using xmms, what are you trying to do?

I tried it with CD player (that come with Dropline Gnome 2.2.2), not sure what the name is, and tried playing .wav with the Gnome "Sound Server" with out luck.
Im currently reinstalling Slackware 9, and I'll get back if I have the same problem.

If you have restarted your computer recently remeber that reloading the ALSA modules at boot mutes them. Also check which modules have been loaded by using "modinfo -module". If they have been loaded try using chmod a+rw /dev/dsp; dev/sequencer, etc..
If this does not work I have experienced troubles using the Gnome sound server and ALSA together in the past, try turning off the Gnome sound server.
