Greetings.
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to try out Slackware Linux. Mandrake was OK, but this one really made me learn some of the stuff the hard way. However, there is one problem I am trying to tackle at this moment. I was trying to import about 500 or so TrueType fonts that I had sed from Windows 2000 Professional to Slackware, but even adding that font directory to the XF86Config file only works with KDE, Gnome, and Mozilla. It will not work with non-KDE nor non-Gnome applications and it really ticks me off. The Hamster Font Manager does not support TrueType fonts, so I can't use that to make all fonts available globally. When I tried xset, here's what I got:
xset: bad font path element (#122), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax
This happens even when I'm logged in as root, the font path was typed correctly, and the fonts.dir and fonts.scale do exist in the fontpath.
Would anyone know how to fix this problem? BTW, the version of Slackware I'm using is 9.0. In Mandrake, the fonts are automatically configured globally, but not in Slackware. The KDE Font Manager doesn't help with this neither and there is no such thing as a gnome-font-install command.
