I have Mandrake 9.1 installed !! This happen with RedHat 8 and 9 .

Im using GNOME and when I login I get this error : "Could not look up the internet address for x1-6-00-e0-29-5e-12-c7. This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding x1-6-00-e0-29-5e-12-c7 to the file /etc/host."

Now I am a wet behind the ears newbie so I have no clue on how to fix this. Now it will let me login, so Im not all that sure on how it is preventing GNOME from working right !!!

Thanks....

This has to do with a misconfigured internet and is nothing to panic about.

Try going to the Mandrake control center and run the network setup.

In reality, the /etc/hosts file has wrong info, if you wanna edit that urself as gedit.

When I run the network setup I can see the row of numbers and letter at the top as the Host name. Cant see a way to change it there....

When I open the host file, all that is in it is : 127.0.0.1 localhost

thats it... What is it that I need to change ??
