I'm thinking of buying a IBM Thinkpad Model TI026XX. Info at: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/products.nsf/wwwthinkpads/E5CC13EFE4F4635B8025693C00167565

Would this work well with Linux(Slackware preferably)?
Is the graphics chipset SMI LynxEM4+ supported by Linux?

SMI LynxEM4+ supported by Linux

Yes, that should work fine.

see: http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.2/Status31.html#31

Beware of the "integrated" 56k modem, it is probably a winmodem.

You are ABSOLUTELY correct it is a winmodem....

However *puts on cape and tights* try this lil IBM linky and all your integrated winmodem problems with linux will be bye-bye.

Geez, I look sexy in tights....

Thanks for the help!
So do you think this computer is good in terms of price and performance?
I want to be able to use it with the latest releases of linux and linuxrelated software for the coming 5 years.
