X server configuartion!

Hi, i am a redhat (8.0) newbie :-)

My problem is the following one:
I changed my default text editor to be gedit instead of vi and when i again restarted the machine, the X server couldn't start.
After trying to adjust the problem about 5 times it says somthing like fatal error: "some" font not found. i forgot the name of the font that's what i replaced by "some".:-)
Maybe if i come back to my initial default text editor vi it will work, but i don't know how to set the default font editor with a command line :-)
So Please, help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's odd but there must be some distro specific
something going on i don't understand....
to change the default editor in bash

EDITOR=vi
VISUAL=vi
export EDITOR VISUAL
