I've got a static IP from my ISP(earthlink), but they haven't mentioned anything about DNS hosting. Am I correct to assume there will be an extra fee for this, which brings up two questions:
1. Why the fee?
2. Are there any free DNS hosting services?

The Fee is for the hosting, and the fact they can rip you off for it. there is the publicdns project at www.granitecanyon.com (http://www.granitecanyon.com) or www.hn.org (http://www.hn.org) is still free for now...

Gee, that site's kinda confusing.
First off, what's an "RR"?
All I want to do is have someone be my Name Server to point my domain name at my IP address. Seems simple enough...

dyndns.org can/will do it for free for a <yourname>.dyndns.org, or I think $30 for life for www.yourdomain.tld (http://www.yourdomain.tld)
