will somebody please setup my damn apache... ill give you root access to my box to do it... i need ssi to work, i need my .htaccess files to work, and i need my autoindex to work

do you really want someone to have that kind of access to your box? matt, relax and take a breather and start from scratch. dot your i's and cross your t's and i'm sure you'll get it running on your own. do you have a dns server pointing to your server? is your firewall allowing http? if you have someone do all this for you what will you learn? how are you going to administer your server?

Ok, what distribution are you using? As root, type into the terminal
/ect/init.d/httpd start
then copy your html files from what ever directory they are in, to the /var/www/html directory. That should get you started. There is also the issue of security, thats the stage that Im in. Oh and, NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR ROOT PASSWORD!
