Can I change it OUT of military time?
When I go to date & time preferences, it is set as:
%H:%M:%S
I tried lower cased H and such but no luck, can you help me on this seemingly easy problem?
Thanks guys, Loving Linux!

What desktop are you using? There are different desktops that have different configuration problems.

Oh, I'm sorry about that, it's KDE 2.0 (As you can tell, I'm a "Lixux Newbie.org"
hehe.
I just want to change it AWAY from military time.
Just right click the clock, click on preferences and change it from digital to analog. Hope this helps.

I tried that...It has something to do with the global setting such as currency, time, keyboard, etc.
It just bugs me about the military time.
If you find out, please post ;)

I think you open up the panel menu, the big "K" down left, and there should be a selection for configuring the panel itself. If I remember right it's in there somewhere. If all else fails open up the KDE help file and do a search for time or clock.

RIGHT click on clock...choose Date & Time Format...Select the Time & dates
tab...
on the line for Time format type this
%I:%M:%S:%p

I don't use KDE, but i saw that option in the KDE Control Panel. It is under user locales or something. Currently, you are set to English, Western Europe. If you change the locale to United States, you get US time (not european time, miliary time)

Nothing happens when I right-click the clock, and I find nothing in KDE Control Center for the clock.
How else can I change it to display local instead of universal time?

Try this:
1) click on the control center icon (5th icon on the bottom left.)
2) select personalization by clicking on the plus sign.
3) select Country & Language
4) under the locale tab, click the dropdown arrow; select North America; then select United States of America. Do not APPLY your settings yet!!!!!!!
5)Go down to Charset and select Unknown or whatever size font you want (unknown recommended).
6) Apply your settings and select ok.
7) log out of kde. If your fonts won't fit on your screen, then right click on your desktop and select logout at the bottom.
8)log back in.
9) try right clicking on the clock again; select adjust time and date. you must put the time that is shown on your handwatch and the current date.
10) apply and ok the changes. if it asks you to restart kde do so.
You are now done. No more military time. You have been honorably discharged :).
