Hello,

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to download a Linux distribution to 100 MB Zip disks? I want to try Debian aand a few other distributionss, and I don't have high-speed access or a CD burner at home, where I'm installing. I don't want Zipslack or Peanut, also. I know I can download the base system, but I also want XFree86, KDE, gcc, xemacs, GNOME, etc.

You could download Debian base system (base.tgz, some boot and driver bin files, a kernel ...), install from you harddrive with those file and finish install by ftp to add the other elements. But it still means lot of download.
It is feasible. I did it on 56k.

But it would be much easier to get cdroms from a magazine or order them from the web ...

Take another look at peanut - you should be able to get everything you want except gcc in the main package. gcc is another 40mb or so, so 2 zip disks would do it.

Or, order a cd from cheapbytes.

ZipSlack is specifically made to be put on zip disks I think. And you can get any extra packages you'd need from www.linuxmafia.org (http://www.linuxmafia.org) I guess.
Haha sorry, when I first read your post I just read the first part and missed out where you said you didnt want zipslack. oops.
