Hi. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good PPPoE dialer for the linux console. I'm going to be using slackware, although i doubt that would matter in the decision. I'm looking for easy configuration if possible. I'm assuming that I need a 3rd party application and that theres no way to do pppoe(at least fairly easily) with the standard linux files. thanks

I have used rp_pppoe (roaring penguin) the configuration is a little terminal menu asks you a few key questions: username, pwd, isp-dns1, isp-dns1... and begs you to select firwall option, either for single pc or masquerading...
I have installed and set it up numerous times and it is a breeze.
Also there is tk_pppoe if you are using X. cute little GUI to run your connection from; and it has the nice feature of a check box to allow other users to access the internet through it...

i'd have to agree, rp-pppoe is the easiest, fastest, most reliable pppoe client... i'm running it on my gateway with slackware 8.0. i've tried a few other clients, but one of them segfaulted when my ISP changed my IP. the other wouldn't stay connected for longer than an hour... rp rocks... and it has a slick gui... although my gateway is no longer an X machine...
to start a connection at boot is as simple as adding "adsl-start" to rc.local...
