updatedb automatic

Does anyone know how to shut off the thing where updatedb runs automatically every like day or so? RedHat8.0 and 9; KDE3.1 and Gnome2.0.
It's really annoying, I know how to type updatedb myself if I'm searching for something newer than the last time I ran it.

You are thinking of up2date, not updatedb.

To stop updatedb, delete the file /etc/cron.daily/slocate.cron
