If I get a new barebone sever with no operating system installed is it more difficult to install mandrake?

Unless you have some sort of supremely compelling reason to actually have another OS on a machine (it doesn't make much sense to have 2 OSses on a server), your Linux installation task is actually easier....just boot from the installation CD-ROM and let-'er-rip.

Most distros that I've seen give varying degrees of automated partitioning during the install process, and there's always fdisk--if that's your concern.

Mandrake is a fine desktop distribution, but is not recommended for servers. Redhat, Debian or Slackware are more common choices. (Redhat is the only one of those three suitable for newbies.)
