I have Win ME with a blank formatted partition. I'm installing Mandrake 7.1. When I boot from the CD and select expert I get as far as the file system creation and then I get the message "No devices were found on which to create a new file system. Please check your hardware for the cause."
What could that mean? Is it just not seeing my HD? What could be doing this? Windows runs, albeit like crap, but it runs.

Please help this pathetic worm of a newbie... before it's to late. Mercy! I cry mercy!!!!!

You could use this artefact : format your second partition in FAT, and then try the install ... It should detect the dos part so you can overwrite it ... If it's your HD that's not detected, I I don't see how you could do this ... Are you SCSI or IDE ?

What hardware do you have, specifically HD and HD controller?

Try what chimaybleue suggested. Reformat the empty partition as FAT or recreate the partition without formatting.
