I can't find any place to download the basic fonts found on Windows or Macintosh. I am looking for these (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/web/fonts/fonts02.htm) fonts. I have access to them on a Windows machine but I can't copy and paste them for some strange reason and I've already spent a long time searching on Google.

Message recieved when I tried to copy the fonts to another folder in Windows:
Error Moving File
Cannot move ARIAL: Access denied.

Make sure that the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use.

Just copy all the '.ttf' files to a CD-ROM from an existing win-whatever installation, which will give you a decent TrueType font repository. You'll also find loads of TrueTypes on the 'net.

I have a default set on CD that I install on every new Linux installation--more than a thousand ttf files--which makes my life easier in the long-run.

Drop 'em into /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF and install the collection in the usual way for your distro.

The first hit I got on Google was http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/
