ive got a P4 - 1.6, 256 MB, 20GB HD @ 7200 RPM and a 64 MB GeForce 4. any tips on how I could maximize performance for Linux?

Anything that your distro installed that you don't use -- turn off. 2) Install nVidia's drivers. This will only help 3D performance, so it's not #1, but you don't have 3D without those drivers, so it is a significant help. For info how, search around here (esp. look in Hardware for the 1.0-4349 thread; that's the newest version and should have links to the download page). Read nVidia's README, too (it's linked from their download page). arkaine23 04-04-2003, 11:44 PM Overclock your Front Side Bus a little bit. There may be options for that in your bios if you have a decent motherboard. check out www.overclockers.com for the nitty-gritty details of overclocking, because it can be dangerous for your hardware if you do it without forethought.
