need keyboard set for german

i need to do my german homework, and i dont know how to set it up in linux for the comp to use the german keyboard settings.. i just have a reg american keyboard, but i know in windows u can set the keyboard so that it thinks its a german one.. i need to do that somehow.. using Red hat 6, i can get the menus and stuff to show up in german.. but i need to be able to type in it..

the command that you have to use is "loadkeys"
ex: to use spanish keys, you have to do loadkeys es. or en for engilsh, I don't know which is for german.
