I installed red hat linux 7.1 on my pc.I
m multi booting win98,win2k server and rhl 7.1.i had no such problems with the installation. All my hardware was detected.
I have a 20GB ide hdd.i have a 4.7GB primary
partition on which win98 is installed.then i installed rhl7.1 with separate partitions for /boot,/,swap,and /usr. I installed kde only.
The whole thing took about 3.2GB.
Then i created FAT32 partitions and installed
win2kserver.
I installed the LILO on the 1st sector of boot partition(/dev/hdc2)and used bootpart to include linux in my win2kser for booting.
It worked fine for 2 days and now when i try to boot after the welcome messages it loads a few things. After
mounting the root partn(/dev/hdc5)it says
"error occured in file checking, dropping u to a shell, system will reboot after u exit the shell"
well now i dont know what to do to get the X started.
startx doesnt work.
please help me to get rid of this.

i am not sure if this applys or not, but it could be when you installed Win2k AFTER Linux, you created another disk partition for Win2k which changed the device # for the partition for Linux, i am willing to bet that IF you can access the LILO.conf file and IF it can be edited to match the new dev # for Linux it would work again...

usually Linux should allways be the last OS to install, and LILO installed to the Windoze MBR...

bummer, i wish i was more of an expert at this, have you made a boot floppy during install??? maybe if you can figureout if the dev# changed you can edit the file in the boot floppy to get in to Linux and get it fixed without having to reinstall...
