I want to go back to using Linux, at least setup a dual boot because I got some software that I doubt I'll find for Linux. Anyways I have used Redhat and Mandrake before, installed successfully, but I always had one prob, and that's networking.

Before, it was just my one computer, directly to the cable modem, onto the ISP. Now, I have a router. Here are some important specs:

Netgear 4 Port Router
Realtek 8135 NIC
Using Road Runner Cable in New York

So what should I do to get the network running? I tried doing everything blindly last few times, and I dont want that frustration again. Please help me out, thanks.

ahh and I plan on running redhat 8.0

You do not say what distobution you currenlty have on your machine. You should install the document rpms that came with your distro.

There will be one or more that deal with networking.

When I installed RH8.0 on my laptop at home I had no problems with getting on the internet. All I did was plug the cable into my router and off I went. Of course I have yet to get to network drives but I am still working on it.

I also had no problems configuring Redhat 8 with my router, it did everything automatically. If you're planning on installing Redhat 8, you might as well wait until April 7 when Redhat 9 will be released.

In X:
redhat-config-network (you have to be logged as root, if no, it will prompt for the root password)
That should help, it's easy to configure it that way. The other way is to configure it in console.

As long as you have a dhcp server running and you select use dhcp during installation you should be ok. If you want static ip addresses you'll need to do a little more work.
