Mandrake hates my new system configuration and refuses to install, but I downloaded the new Red Hat and it will install. Before I go any further and get this distro; is Red Hat as easy to install and use as Mandrake?

For example the mandrake control center aka mcc is a great tool. I loved it just for the font import tool. Redhat for example does not support mp3 "out of box". I know, simple download but it is the little things that make for a better experience and overall I think Mandrake is easier to grasp right from the start. ....Redhat is as solid as you want it to be, I know, but I gave up and tried mandrake because of the little stuff like easy to find font tools, mp3, and mostly the other config tools. my .02 graphixx 04-01-2003, 10:55 PM Just my opinon, but I think Mandrake is easier for a newb. So my opinion might not be valid :-) serz 04-01-2003, 11:05 PM Mandrake is easy, it's perfect for newbies. If you tried Mandrake and you're tired of it and you need a distro change, go for RedHat (version 9 will be out in some days, April 9 I think). In many cases, Redhat is good start. Soniku 04-02-2003, 02:17 PM Thanks for the input guys. I did not know there was a new RH coming out, so I guess I'll wait a week before to get it. Hopefully nothing changes from 8-9 that wont let me install it. vampylestat 04-02-2003, 02:40 PM I think he's asking whether REDHAT is as easy as MANDRAKE, not the other way around :p Yes, I would say that it is (just as easy). I know alot of people are against RH, because of mp3 and dvd playback, and NTFS support, and yes it is easy to fix, mp3 and dvd support comes back with a few commands (by installing the apt-get rpm). I think it looks great too, and if you don't think it does, then you have the option of changing it using themes, just like any other distro. I got RH9 yesterday, I'm gonna install it tonight, i got it using bittorrent, just search for it in google. Soniku 04-02-2003, 08:07 PM Wow, no NTFS support huh? So I will have to reformat ny documents drive to FAT32 if I want to share documents between my Windows and RH partitions? vampylestat 04-02-2003, 08:10 PM Originally posted by Soniku Wow, no NTFS support huh? You could do that, that way you could read AND write to your windows partition, or you can just install NTFS support, but you would only have read permissions. justlinux.com
