can i use cat5e cable anywhere i could use cat 5? i was wanting to use a cat5e crossover cable to network 2 pcs.thanks

in a word yes. as long as you setup the wiring correctly.

He just means Keep the twists as close to the terminating modular plug as possible. Keep the sheath as far into the plug as possible to maintain some physical integrity on the ends too.

okay, now i'm extremely confused...someone told me all i had to do was throw in a couple of nics, link em with a crossover cable, & go at it...am i missing something?

nope. Make sure your cable is good. If you make it your self, you don't want it comming lose on ya.

stop the complication. Yes, you can use cat 5e.

This guy is just buying the wiring from the store and hooking them up like in a home networking kit.

gcb: where in VA are you? i'd be curious to know where you are buying parts. i've never found stores outside of fredericksburg that i really like. of course, i live in fred'burg, but i grew up in woodbridge, and most of the places around there stunk (golden tech for example. never did like the people that work there. kinda slimy).
