I.m using kernel 2.2.17 and want to install USB CD-writer HP 8230e. On USBview, the device is detected but I can't put it in modules neither to mount it.
Please guide me...

2.2.17 have no real USB-support.

That came in 2.2.18, and was really stolen from one of the pre's of 2.4.

A good idea would be to upgrade yor kernel, and read the HOWTOS about the subject. I'm quite confident that the solution you seek will be found that way. If not, you can allways upgerade to 2.4.

Linux has only limited support for USB, but if you've got some "stadard" equipment, the solution should be there somewhere.

Kernel upgrade is a given...
Then it turn into an interesting problem...
I don't have a clue how to solve it now but I believe the train of thought you must follow is:
USB support..kernel upgrade
USB mass storage support...

now how to make an external USB/ide CDR emulate SCSI?
I am betting it will be as simple as a kernel upgrade and then the standard stuff to get a CDR up.
Modules are cool and fun to do, but if yer system is a simple as mine at home...you may be better off building a monolithic kernel..JMO
