My wacom tablet just wouldn't work no matter what, generic 3 button mouse (USB) doesn't work, generic mouse (USB) doesn't work either and btw it's a Wacom Graphire2, and another thing... my sound card is somehow deactivated! it's just that way and i can't figure out a way to activate it :( it's a C-Media CMI8738

you need to give more info......
distro?
other hardware?
the reason I say this is because I got my wacom tablet working great in linux.
I presently use it on my redhat 7.3 box.
kudzu detected it on boot I then chose it as a art tablet to avoid it taking over my mouse.
this may be helpfull:
http://gug.sunsite.dk/tutorials/ayoros1/
follow this guide. it is the best one out there for Wacom.
http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/index.php/howto/main
regarding your USB problem(s) - do you have support for USB and HID in your kernel? you didn't say what distro. If it is Red Hat or SuSE or Mandrake I would imagine you have it in the kernel.
in order for the wacom tablet to work, you have to have the wacom kernel module (requres a kernel recompile unless oyu already have it). the guide i gave you the URL for covers everything you need to know. Print it out and follow along.

Not sure on rh8.0 but try this and see...
first... open terminal su to root
su -
then after giving the password type:
sndconfig
you will get a wizard that will config the sound card.
next open the gnome or KDE control center and look for the sound settings from there tell it to run the sound server from start.
Hope this atleast points you in the right direction.
