i download xine-lib. i ran configure, make and then make install. it says that it is installed onto /usr/local/lib so i checked and the launcher wasnt there. so i got xine-ui and tried to configure it, it said:
The test program compiled, but did not run. This usually means
*** that the run-time linker is not finding XINE or finding the wrong
*** version of XINE. If it is not finding XINE, you'll need to set your
*** LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, or edit /etc/ld.so.conf to point
*** to the installed location Also, make sure you have run ldconfig if that
*** is required on your system
Does anyone know how i can fix this problem. Id appreciate the help. thanks

basically make sure /usr/local/lib is listed inside /etc/ld.so.conf. If not, add the line to it.

Then run /sbin/ldconfig.

Isn't all of this covered in the documentation, faq's etc. at http://xine.sourceforge.net (or their new site)?

Just get the rpm (if your system is rpm based) from www.asp-linux.com. They have the rpms with the d4d libraries so you can see regular dvds. I installed it to test on my laptop and it rocks.
