General info- p3 500 mhz, 256 mb ram 12 gb hd and a 80 gb hd, TNT2 32 mb grpahics Soundblaster Live! Digital sound card.
My Problem- I recently bought a 80 gig hard drive and mandrake 8.0 I have windows installed on the 12 gb hard drive and want to install a dual boot with linux on my 80 gig with 64 gigs left for a windows dump. I followed the insturctions and must have done something wrong in the installation because I get the following message when I try to run linux on the screen with all the different languages:
VFS: Cannot open root device "2145" or 21:45
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 21:45
I was told to try a boot disk but that did not work. I also was told to use expert installation to do it and follow the manual so I tried that but recieved the same results.
Does anyone know how I have to partition and install? It would be greatly appreciated if someone could walk me through this since I am having trouble following the book, if it is in fact possible to do what I wish to do.
