My company is sending me a laptop with win98 installed. I'd like to create a linux partition and dual boot, but I've heard linux can be tricky on a laptop...and dual booting may not even be an option.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

I had no problems on my laptop. I'm dual booting Win98 and Redhat 7. It was more of getting the hardware to work for me e.g. IR, PCMCIA etc. You might want to check out this link http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/mirrors.html that is dedicated to Linux on Laptops.

I have no significant problems running Win98 and Mandrake 7.2 on my Dell Inspiron. XFree86 can be a headache when it comes to LCD screen and vid card setup and soundcard support is somewhat limited. There is OSS and XIG.com just in case. Mandrake is pretty good in that USB and PCMCIA were both running perfectly upon the initial setup.

I'm now in the process of trying debian.

I've got Slackware on an IBM 365X, no problems. OpenBSD worked well but a little spartan for me.
