First, DHCP has nothing to do with the kernel.
You'll need to install an DHCP Client software to use DHCP.

You should first try the NHF about compiling a kernel. For IP Masqurading you have to use an utility (ipchains - kernel 2.2.x ; ipchains - kernel 2.4.x). You can just add the support for this things to your kernel...

Good luck... .

There's a brief tutorial at http://www.linuxplanet.com on how to setup DHCP on Linux. If you've installed dhcp.tgz then your box should be ready to go.

I've been told you need kernel 2.4.10 for the HPT370. I have the same setup but have not tried to get it to work yet.
