the horibble, HORRIBLE beeping, make it stop. Is there anyway to make all the beeping stop (or make it very quite, i know Kde 2.0 could change volume/frequency of the beep). If there is no simple way, does anyone know how to stop beeping in bash, vim, or *****X?

probably not the solution you're after, but pull the cable out of the motherboard :)

wow, thats genius, i also figured out that if i put my computer if a fire, i cant here the beeps! I know that if i fiddle with the modo i can disable the bepp, but i really dont want to do a hgardware solution for something that can be done in software and as trivial as this

no need to take that attitude :(

sorry, but your 'solution' was just a joke too

The question you've gotta be asking your self is: what were you doing when it started?

Seriously I would follow as prescribed above, so one can at least retain some semblance of sanity whilst rooting out the problem.
Just shutting off the volume may not be the best option, because that would be just taping over the problem and not solving it, which could come back to haunt you in later days

not really, it solves the problem for all OSes as far as I'm concerned - it's what I did

I'm talking about the system beep, i could unplug the power to my mobo, yes that would work, but nothing else would :p, I dont have a sound card/speakers. anyone have any idea how to make it quiter or non existant? (like in bash, if you try to tab and there are multiple files with that prefex then it beeps.

I don't think they mean pull the power connector from your board, just the speaker wire :D

try this:

xset -b off

But I disabled mine from the motherboard

You could try to go to the KDE Setup and setup the bell ... But I don't know if the command line mode would mind the change ...

but unplugging the speaker cord is much easier ...
