I'm a newbie so please be patient

I've got Mandrake 9.0 installed on a system with Apache on it
and want to set up a very simple website that I made. I need to use dyndns to map my dynamic IP to my domain name...can anyone give me hints?

www.dyndns.org has all the answers. What exactly was your question?

I guess I just wanted some basic newbie info about setting up apache and dyndns. I have looked at the dyndns site and don't want to pay for the static dns service. I already have a registered domain name and want a free service to update a dns server with my dynamic IP address. Does anone know of another service like dyndns only free?

You could go to http://zoneedit.com/
It's free, and easy to set up forwarding. You can also download a program that will check your IP every once in a while and change it in zoneedit's database if it has changed.

Great tip! Thanks. I already had a dyndns.org domain name, but I registered my own dot org domain because the free one was too long. Cool, now I can fire up my Linux server at home.
