I seem to be able to see my monitor refreshing...It's a little jumpy in the corners...If I was in windows I'd just drop the refresh and see if that works but It's a little scarier in Linux...I'm new any ideas?

There's a config file called 'XF86Config' located in '/etc/X11/'

Open it in a text editor, find the bit about the refresh rates......change how you want (make sure you made a back-up of the original file) and save. Press 'ctrl-alt-backspace' to kill X and log back in with your new refesh rate :)

Be warned, if you choose a refresh rate that your monitor doesn't like, you will be locked out of X.........make sure you know enough to edit that config file manually if you're worried ;)
