I'm disappointed with the print quality of OpenOffice 1.0.2 Writer. I was wondering if anyone knew how to improve the quality. I find the print-outs to be quite "grainy." This appears to be my only program with print quality problems.

I'm using Debian 3.0 (Woody). I have OpenOffice 1.0.2 installed. I use CUPS to print. My printer is a HP LaserJet 1100 connected through the parellel port.

I set up CUPS in KDE 3.1 and choose the HP LaserJet 1100 driver. I set the print quality to 600 by 600 (maximum.) Any other program I print with produces good quality output.

I have set up OpenOffice to print using the OpenOffice Printer Administration. Unfortunately, the best driver available was the HP LaserJet 4. I could not find any settings to improve print quality. I have set the printer to print to lp. I would like to print at 600 by 600 and I think the LaserJet 4 can do this - thus it should be built into the driver.

My questions:
Is there a HP LaserJet 1100 driver for OpenOffice 1.0.2?
or
Where can I adjust print quality to 600 by 600 in the HP LaserJet 4 driver for OpenOffice 1.0.2?
or
Is there another available print driver I can use that would improve the print quality on my HP LaserJet 1100?

Any help would be appreciated. I sincerely hope it's not an obvious answer that I simply over-looked.

OK, you use debian.. install cups (cupsd) and run it, using KDE control center or address in web-browser that adjusts cups create a new printer. The Openoffice printing system is nice if printer is supported, but I use cups anyway so I can share out printer on network and there's more control over everything.

Your best bet is to visit http://www.tldp.org/

And have a look for a cups guide. It's really not hard to setup.

Hope this helps
