I want to ghost my dual boot of Win2k and Mandrake 8.1. I know that it can be done with Norton Ghost 2001.

My question is when I'm restoring the image is there a certain procedure I have to go through? Can I just restore ONLY my win2k image and not have it cause any problems with linux which was not restored? Or do I have to restore both images back together? And finally is there a specific file system I have to use to get Norton Ghost to recognize Linux?

I'm a newbie to Linux so I'm at the right site :D

Thanks :cool

well if you ghost your system, It will put it back the way it was when you ghost'd it..

There should be a way to just ghost individual partitions.. So in that case you should beable to restore your windows partition and run a windows machine.. although I never did try that.

as far as linux I don't know about the file system question.

Greetings,

I have Ghost too and wish to use it to backup my Win and Linux drives.

It seems that earlier versions of Ghost can only do a sector by sector backup of a linux drive (which means that each sector on the drive - regardless of whether or not it has data- will be backed up. Thus, a 10 gig linux drive may take 9 CDs of backup space when the data it holds may only be 2 gig.). Newer versions apparently only back up the data.

More info can be obtained by going to:
http://www.symantec.com/search/

and searching for "Ghost compatibility with Linux"

the resulting article from their knowledge base will detail which versions of Ghost have which capabilities.

Good luck !
