How do I go about setting my Linux box as a server? On windows I know that you can use things like warFTP to configure a server, but how would I do that in linux? I have an HP Windows machine as a server, and a cable connection. How would I or where would I look for info on setting up a server?

thanks

There are many small steps involved in making a good and secure Linux server. My advice to you is to familiarize yourself with the CLI, and to read the Networking NHF's (NHF--Networking, for starters)here on this site, as well as specific HOWTO's contained at www.linuxdocs.org. (http://www.linuxdocs.org.) Spend some time perusing those and getting familiar with your system, and you'll be golden in no time. Much better to learn now than to try to have someone give you each step, or otherwise you'll likely get nowhere, and rather fast. Good luck, if you run into specific questions after reading, give it a post!
